Government Surpluses Threaten Consumers’ Savings

imageExplaining to people that surplus budgets threaten peoples’ savings is probably the best way to improve their understanding of a national economy and help rid us of the false statements that our politicians spew forth.

A Government of Amateurs

idiotsScott Morrison’s own ideology has come back to bite him and his government where it hurts; their own credibility as economic managers is in tatters.

Is the pressure starting to tell on Malcolm Turnbull?

imageIn challenging and winning the Liberal party leadership and the prize of becoming prime minister, he was responsible for sending a wave of relief across the country.

He got rid of an embarrassing, bumbling, ‘foot in mouth’ prone Tony Abbott and we were all extremely grateful. We immediately gave him the credit he deserved. Malcolm started by telling us how exciting it was to be an Australian. It was a bit corny but we went along with it, so happy we were that he wasn’t Tony Abbott.

No jobs, no growth, but lots of spin

imageIf it were serious about jobs and growth, the government, as the currency issuer, has it within its capacity to employ our under-utilised workforce in a broad range of activities both in the public and private sector, paying a liveable wage, creating demand and gaining tax revenue, without any need to borrow.

What was he saying?

morrisonThe address by Scott Morrison at the National Press Club and his subsequent interview with Leigh Sales on Wednesday evening was, to say the least, uninspiring. Much of the generous time he was given was wasted on waffle.

For his audience of journalists, it was sleepy time, and one or two of them looked like they were about to drop off. For the politicians there lending moral support, they too looked none the wiser as to whether his message actually had content.

It’s all just numbers in a computer

confusedThe strength of a nation’s wealth is its GDP, its gross domestic product, its ability to produce goods and services that people here and overseas want to buy. Throwing money out of helicopters would not achieve that.

Disunity is death and the Liberals have it in Buckets

disuniFrom memory John Howard was the first to say, Disunity is death” when referring to political parties, although just about everyone in politics says it now. And, as it happens, the Liberals have buckets of it.

If you read Mike Seccombe’s column in the The Saturday Paper this week you will get some idea of what is going on behind the scenes inside the Liberal Party and none of it is good news for Malcolm Turnbull.

The gift that keeps on giving.

abbott

The media is in a spin over all this chatter about the possibility that former PM Tony Abbott might make another run for the top job.

Abbott has announced that he will re-contest pre-selection for the safe seat of Warringah.

Meanwhile he is off to speak to the Alliance Defending Freedom in the US where he will be among like-minded souls. They want to return the world to the Christendom of the Dark Ages.
